School Age Curriculum Design
I chose to do in edge project that would enhance my abilities as a teacher. I wanted a project that gave me some experience in the field I was majoring in. I want it to focus my project in enhancing my creative abilities, organizational skills as well as educational enhancement development. I took all of these abilities into consideration and ask some of my friends and colleagues for some suggestions on a project that would help me enhance all of these abilities. I developed the idea of creating lesson plans for a school-age program at Discovery Clubhouse.
I reached out to Discovery Clubhouse and pitched my idea to the management there. They were very excited about what I was offering to do for their program. I set up a plan with them of expectations themes and they meeting schedule to receive feedback and assistance with my project. I met with management on a weekly basis so they could go over any adjustments or budgeting that needed to be considered into the lesson plans. I was able to design a project that I myself and the school was very proud of and was able to help with executing many of the projects.
I didn't want to do in edge project I'm just anything. I truly wanted to enhance abilities for my career. I wanted to get some experience in this field that will enhance my resume and my experience. I did some research into schools in the area that may benefit with this project. I designed something that would not just benefit me, but my school career, my lasting career and experiences for the children.
The biggest challenge that I felt was an obstacle I faced was the time that I needed to set aside to accomplish my goals. Doing research meeting with the management at Discovery Clubhouse and figuring out which activities would best enhance the curriculum took a lot more time than I had anticipated. I was grateful for the resources I found and the learning and I had butt I did not anticipate how much time it would truly take.
I had not anticipated the time it takes to design curriculum. Fortunately after the completion of the first lesson plan I realized I definitely had to enhance my time management skills. I needed to schedule more time into research so that when I met with the management I was prepared. I had to plan out some of my evening down to the minute to make sure I was completing each goal as well as working full time and my six classes I was enrolled in.
This project definitely was for my benefit but even more benefited the children at Discovery Clubhouse. They were able to have a fun and educational summer. Their summer was filled with field trips, projects, discussions, learning and fun. As I was able to see throughout the summer they definitely had a lot of fun with the activities I planned.
This benefited me by allowing me time management organizational skills as well as the resources I was able to find for my project. All of these skills were increased a hundred percent by the end of my project. I learned to reach out and ask for help which is something I have a hard time doing. I was able to get feedback from colleagues that are great in this field. I was able to make friends with teachers that helped collaborate on my lesson plans. All of these resources and abilities or something that I will definitely continue to use throughout the rest of my career as a teacher.
